Health starts at home.
Creating a clean environment is critical for addressing mold toxicity. The very first step down your road to recovery from CIRS is removing yourself from the moldy environment. Sometimes, it even requires parting with personal belongings. It's not easy, but it's absolutely the most important thing you can do.
Trying to understand your living and working environment while making smart decisions can be frustrating without knowing all the facts. I can help you:
- Perform appropriate mold testing
- Understand your mold test results
- Identify what items are safe to keep and which ones need to be replaced
- Find effective cleaning techniques and products for mold and mycotoxins
- Finding a new home if you need to relocate temporarily or permanently
- Communicate your needs to landlords, property managers, supervisors, and/or loved ones
- Other services that help you navigate the journey.
Is your indoor environment safe?
Mold toxicity is a result of mold exposure in a water-damaged building. Not all molds are bad, but certain molds are very toxic. Molds that produce mycotoxins are very threatening to the health of sensitive individuals, so it is critical to know where the source of mold is coming from. Identifying where the mold is coming from and removing it from your environment is the only way your body can fully heal. It could be the home - and that's often the case - but it could also be at a work space or even a car that's triggering CIRS.
I find that many people I work with have a strong intuition about their environment. Their gut instinct is strong and they are usually right. These people are typically well aware of their surroundings and how their environment makes them feel. I think it is very important to trust that instinct, but it is also important to verify that with a test.
There are a variety of tests available, but knowing which one to perform is important. Interpreting the results can also be challenging. I help my clients choose the right test for their environment(s) and help them understand what the results mean.

You don't have to live in a tent!
During my mold experience, I had given up trying to sleep in the rental house I was living in at the time. My intuition told me to get the hell out of there, so I pitched a tent in the back yard and low and behold, I started feeling better! I slept outside until the weather got too cold, at which point I was forced to come to grips with reality. I had to pack up and move. Ug...
Create a healthy indoor environment and so you can regain your health and vitality.
In addition to mold, it is important to be aware of and minimize exposure to other environmental triggers. CIRS can make the body extremely sensitive to other factors including chemical odors and electromagnetic fields. Part of the process of creating a safe and healthy home includes minimizing exposure to common VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies).
VOCs and EMFs affect the health of EVERY BODY. However, not everyone is as sensitive to the symptoms of these environmental toxins as those with CIRS. We are the canaries in the coal mine presenting the effects of what industry has neglected to study. More information on VOCs and EMFs is available on my Resources page.
In addition to testing for mold, I will help you reduce VOC and EMF exposure in your environment so that your body has the best opportunity for regaining health and vitality.

"Putting in tens of millions of 5G antennae without a single biological test of safety has got to be the stupidest idea anyone has had in the history of the world."
Martin L. Pall, Ph.D. & Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Basic Medical Sciences, Washington State University
Dr. Pall is a medical researcher who helped pave the way toward understanding of the biological effects of microwave radiation. You can find out more about the health effects of EMFs in my blog.
You may be someone who is skeptical of the effects of electromagnetic frequencies on humans. Or, you may think that those who believe cell phones give you cancer are hypochondriacs who just need to "get over it". Or, you may be a canary in the coal mine who experiences a variety of symptoms when exposed to any type of EMF but think to yourself, "is this all just in my head?"
I'm here to tell you, EMF exposure can cause REAL symptoms. The science is in folks: Non-ionizing EMF radiation has biological effects on the human body.
What are EMF's?
In simple terms, EMF's (or electromagnetic frequencies ) encompass a wide range of frequencies on the electromagnetic spectrum, which includes lower energy long wave lengths on one end and higher energy short wavelengths on the other.

There are two types of EMF waves:
There are two types of EMF waves:
- Ionizing: High energy waves that can directly damage DNA, including UV-rays, x-rays, and gamma rays.
- Non-ionizing: Low energy waves that don't have enough energy to break the covalent bonds in DNA, but have secondary effects that lead to DNA damage and other biological effects.
Why are industry and governments alike missing the science on EMFs?
Since the radiation coming off of wireless devices is non-ionizing, the government claims that it is not able to damage DNA and therefore only has thermal (heating) effects on body tissue (think microwave oven). The thermal effects of cell phones is tested on a manikin head equivalent to the head size and weight of a 200 lb man. The cell phone is operated at max power for six minutes. The thermal heating limit is 1 degree Celsius. This is the extent of the testing required by the FCC.
Research suggests biological (non-thermal) effects of EMFs.
Many studies have shown that there are indeed multiple different ways in which EMFs effect our cells and our DNA.

- Cellular Stress Response: This occurs when a cell identifies a threat. These threats can be intrinsic or external oxidative agents, toxins, or excessive heat. When a cell senses a threat, it is triggered into a cellular stress response. As a result, it generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), a type of free radical. ROS is not necessarily a bad thing, but too much ROS becomes toxic to the cellular environment and alters enzyme activity and gene expression. The mechanisms within the cell to combat ROS become impaired and the EMFs can then make their way into the cell nucleus and damage DNA strands. Excessive amounts of ROS can lead to cancers, nerve death, neurological damage in the brain, and other neurological disorders like Alzheimer's, MS, and epilepsy. The brain is most susceptible because oxidation damage can happen more easily here than in any other organ.
- Voltage Gate Calcium Channel (VGCC) Alterations: Each cell has a voltage sensor on the exterior cell membrane that opens and closes a gate to allow calcium into the cell. EMFs can force the gates open and allow an excessive amount of intracellular calcium ions (Ca2+) into the cell. The down-stream effect results in an over-production of peroxynitrite, a potent oxidant, which then breaks down into many different free radicals. As we know, these free radicals can damage cells and lead to chronic disease.
